Chapter One:
Arcadia is a land of constant
conflict. Whether
a full-blown war or simple duels
between friends, fighting has existed
and has steered Arcadia through the
ups and downs. Knowing this,
an Arcadian by the name of The Celestial
hosted a Battle Tournament with the
secret intent of using the genetic
material of the fighters, and some
of the fighters themselves, to seize
control of the government. His
plan succeeded with very little actual
bloodshed and he established The
Celestial Empire as the ruling authority
in the land. His coup did not
go unanswered though…
A small resistance force called
La Revolution rose up and began to
grow in number behind various leaders
including The Tin Woodsman and Anteros. They
established a flying castle as their
headquarters on the western reaches
of Arcadia, distancing themselves
from the power base of The Celestial
Empire. La Revolution fought
the Empire on every front, and despite
being outgunned and at times outnumbered,
was a serious thorn in the side of
the Empire’s expansion to the
west.
Through a series of bloody fights
and epic battles, The Celestial Empire
finally worked their way across Arcadia
and to La Revolution’s Flying
Castle. A massive conflict
was waged in which a La Revolution
was mostly defeated and their Flying
Castle, wracked with internal destruction,
plummeted towards the ground.
In his moment of final triumph against
La Revolution, The Celestial was
secretly betrayed by Rannesanque,
one of his commanders, and killed
moments before the Flying Castle
crashed into the ground. Rannesanque
escaped with the metal arm of The
Celestial, claiming his sovereignty
over the land of Arcadia. Shilane,
another commander of The Celestial
Empire and friend of The Celestial,
opposed his supposed claim, even
without the knowledge of Celestial’s
murder.
Over the course of five months,
the schism in the remaining commanders
from both sides reached a breaking
point and Rannesanque and those loyal
to him broke away from The Celestial
Empire and formed a fighting force
called Feuersturm. They quickly
established a base of operations
in the southwest of Arcadia and supported
by a large amount of the former mechanized
troops of The Celestial Empire, stand
defiant and ready to crush any who
dare oppose them.

Welcome to War for Arcadia, a comic-battling website where all the content is provided by folks just like you.
Wait...What exactly is comic-battling?
Basically, two artists are pitted against each other with their respective characters and are given a rough setting. One artist goes first drawing a comic in a week's timespan. His opponent replies with a comic in the same time period. This happens one more time (for a total of four comics) and then a poll is opened to determine the winner.
Where does all of this take place?
A
fictional land called Arcadia.
Arcadia is 100% user-created
and houses all sorts of characters
and settings. From vampires
to superheroes, flying castles
to sprawling technological
megalopolises. That doesn't
mean that there isn't more
austere elements though.
Simple businessmen and soldiers
can meet up in quiet field
somewhere or wander through
a simple fishing village.
Arcadia has something for
just about everyone.
Alright, I'll bite. How do I join in?
It's
pretty simple actually. All
you really need to do is
come up with a character
and submit him or her according
the pre-existing guidelines.
There's more detail listed
here,
so if you really wanna take
it to the next level or make
100% sure you wanna jump
in, I recommend reading through
it.
I'm not sold yet, what can I do in the meantime?
Just
because you don't wanna participate
doesn't mean you can't hang
around. We have plenty of
spectators that just enjoy
the wonderful social atmosphere
we have here as well as cast
their vote on battles. If
you wanna chat with fellow
users, check out the chat
thread or the Vidya Game
thread. Want to draw something,
but not ready for a whole
battle? Try the Junkheap
(for random WFA-related sketches)
or one of the various Fan
Art of Weekly themed art
jams in the Off-Duty subforum.
Just want to check out the
battles? Head on over to
the Archive to catch
up on old matches or jump
into the Battlegrounds to
see the current match-ups.
I still have a question, or would like some more guidance...
